During my observation, I have found that the teacher uses the behaviorism theory the most. She mostly uses the reward system of granting some extra time for recess if they are well behaved. Even though it has only added up to one extra minute (at most), the children thrive on earning the extra time, and when she takes away some time, they know they have messed up and work really hard to earn it back.
I have also noticed that the teacher writes on the board for everything. She explained to me that she received some advice from past teachers who say certain students in her classroom are visual learners and learn better when you write basic facts on the board. She also does a lot of creative hands on projects because some students benefit from that type of learning.

Blog Entry 1
The school is called Hobble Creek Elementary. It is a fairly new looking school placed in the middle of rural Mapleton Utah. I was able to go to this school as a kid, so it was fun to go back and revisit. There is a wide variety of new houses and old houses, big houses and small houses, rich looking houses and poorer looking houses.
The students seem like typical elementary school kids. They love to play and have fun. Because it is a rural town, some of the kids like being in smaller groups and not having big classes (don't we all).
I am excited to start this service learning activity. I look forward to observing teachers and learning their skills and knowledge that they have gained over the years of teaching. I am also excited to assist in any way the teacher needs me to. It will be a good experience to get in the classroom and start doing the work that will be my life until I retire.
